Historic Beaufort Foundation’s annual Fall Festival of Houses & Gardens has attracted hundreds of visitors to Beaufort from across the country to stay, tour, dine, shop and immerse themselves in the history and unique offerings of Beaufort and the Lowcountry for more than 50 years.
This year we have added two exciting new activities to enhance your experience – an exclusive evening with acclaimed architect and author Jane Frederick and a pre-renovation sneak peek hard-hat tour of the property (ca. 1910) recently purchased by the foundation with our Revolving Fund.
We hope you will join us for this exciting weekend as gracious property owners open their private homes, sites and gardens as part of this unique experience.

Contemporary Southern Vernacular – An Evening with Lowcountry Architect & Author Jane Frederick
Please join us for an evening reception and discussion with acclaimed Lowcountry architect and author Jane Frederick, as she presents Contemporary Southern Vernacular: Creating Sustainable Houses for Hot, Humid Climates. Cowritten by veteran architects Jane and Michael Frederick, this comprehensive guide provides clear advice and guidelines needed for creating sustainable Southern homes that will last a lifetime (and beyond). This special event will be held at the gracious home of Mr. and Mrs. Drew Scallan, the Flora and John Trask, Sr. House, ca. 1913, overlooking the Bluff in Beaufort’s National Historic Landmark District. A Tour of the Bluff
Beaufort’s Fall Festival of Houses & Gardens offers a unique glimpse into homes and gardens within and around our National Historic Landmark District. Annually, tour goers delight in the history, the architecture and lives of the families that built and lived in this special place.
This year’s tour will feature Beaufort’s Bluff and Glebe Neighborhoods showcasing a variety of periods and architectural styles ranging from the early 19th century to the mid-20th century. Purchase Single Day Tickets

Sneak-Peek Hard-hat Tour & Reception
In June, Historic Beaufort Foundation was fortunate to acquire a significant property on Greene Street within Beaufort’s National Historic Landmark District. The purchase was made possible through the use of our Revolving Fund which was created with the sole purpose to acquire, improve and preserve Beaufort’s rich architectural history. As a special sneak-peek, we are offering a pre-renovation hard-hat tour and light reception following the house and garden tours on Saturday. Space is limited for this activity. Purchase Tickets

Lowcountry Brunch & Tour
We are delighted to hold this year’s Sunday Lowcountry Brunch & Tour at the spectacular Robert Means-Gage House (ca. 1800) along the Bluff in Beaufort’s National Historic Landmark District.
For over 30 years, owner Catherine Scarborough, and her husband Wallace, have uncovered thousands of artifacts, porcelains and pottery shards through discovery of two pre-Civil War privies and most recently, an 18th century well on their property. These items are being carefully studied with the goal of cataloguing, preserving and showcasing the items. Mr. & Mrs. Scarborough have graciously offered to display and discuss the items and their journey of discovery. Acclaimed Architectural consultant Colin Brooker will also join us for the 2nd shift of the day.
In 2019 the house and property were listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places.
